Manufacturer: Omron
Measurement parameters:
- Percentage (%) body fat composition
- BMI value
- body weight classification (e.g. normal, overweight, etc).
Accuracy: 5 %. The accuracy is pretty good and it compares well to professional health care institute equipment results. A friend of mine measured her body fat content in clinics using a high class equipment, her body fat was 40.3 %. This hand held measuring device indicated 41%, which compared very well with the clinics value. So, I would say that its body fat content value can be relied upon with confidence.
Approximate cost (Amazon price, May 2011): 28.1 pounds (inc. VAT)
I invest a lot of my time into sports and outdoor activities. In recent years I have been focusing on indoor rowing and triathlon races. To perform optimally, you need to train correctly and also eat correctly. Yes, nutrition can be more vital than training sometimes. A super expensive car cannot function, if it uses a low quality petrol. Same for our body with foods. Especially, if you are into long duration sports such as triathlon, body composition must complement training.
Generally, a low body fat content is beneficial from many views. I am using this fat measuring device to monitor body fat percentage. This value can guide you and indicate to you if you are moving into the right direction or not. Average competitors carry around 15% of body fat.
Basic calculations:
My current body weight is 100kg with 20.5% body fat content. This means that I carry 20.5 kg of fat, while the remaining 79.5 kg is the rest of the body weight, which includes bones, muscles, organs, etc.
